Guide to Installing a Certificate on Workstations
This guide explains how to add a certificate to a computer in simple steps. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure the certificate is installed correctly.
What You’ll Need

A computer with Windows.
- Windows Administration Rights (You will need to ask your IT Team for assistance)

The name of the computer you’re working on.

The certificate from the HESSDA server (provided with your software).
Step-by-Step Instructions

Open the Management Console

Click the Start button (Windows icon) on your computer.

Type MMC in the search bar and press Enter.

A window called “Console1” will open.

Add the Certificates Tool

In the Console1 window, click File at the top, then select Add or Remove Snap-in.

Find Certificates in the list, double-click it, or select it and click Add.

Choose Your User Account

A window will pop up. Select My User Account and click Finish.

This adds the certificate tool for your account.

Add the Computer Account

Back in the Snap-in window, double-click Certificates again.

This time, choose Computer Account and click Next.

Select Another Computer, type the name of the computer you’re working on, and click Finish.

Find the HESSDA Server Certificate

In the Console1 window, you’ll see a list on the left. Click the arrows to expand Console Root until you find Trusted Root Certification Authorities and then Certificates.

On the right side, sort the certificates by Expiry Date (click the column header).

Look for the HESSDA server certificate at the top (it has a 100-year expiry date).

Right-click the HESSDA certificate and select Copy. (Important: Do NOT select Cut or Delete!)

Paste the Certificate to the Client Computer

Still in the Console1 window, find the Certificates folder under Trusted Root Certification Authorities for the Computer Account (the client machine you added in Step 4).

Right-click in the right pane and select Paste to add the copied certificate.

Done!
You’ve now installed the certificate on the workstation.
