This guide provides simple steps to troubleshoot issues with your wireless scanner. Please follow these steps carefully before raising a hardware ticket with the admin team.
Step 1: Clean the Contacts
-
What to do: Gently clean the metal contacts on both the scanner and its base station.
-
How to do it: Use a soft, dry cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Wipe away any dirt, dust, or residue.
-
Why: Dirty contacts can prevent the scanner from connecting properly to the base station.
Step 2: Inspect the Contacts
-
What to do: Check the contacts on the scanner and base station for any damage or discolouration.
-
How to do it: Look closely at the metal contacts. They should appear shiny and undamaged. If you see any dark spots, corrosion, or bent/broken contacts, note this for the admin team.
-
Why: Damaged or discoloured contacts can cause connection issues.
Step 3: Disconnect the USB Cable and PSU
-
What to do: Unplug the USB cable and power supply unit (PSU) from the base station, but keep the scanner connected to the base.
-
How to do it:
-
Locate the USB cable and PSU connected to the base station.
-
Carefully unplug both from their sockets.
-
Ensure the scanner remains seated in or connected to the base station.
-
-
Why: This resets the connection and power to the base station.
Step 4: Reconnect and Power On
-
What to do: Reconnect the USB cable, wait for a confirmation sound and steady lights, then reconnect and turn on the PSU.
-
How to do it:
-
Plug the USB cable back into the base station.
-
Wait for a beep or other sound from the scanner/base station, and check that the lights on the base station are steady (not flashing).
-
Plug the PSU back into the base station and turn it on.
-
-
Why: This ensures the scanner and base station are properly powered and communicating.
Next Steps
-
After completing these steps, test the scanner to see if it works.
-
If the scanner still doesn’t work, or if you noticed damaged/discoloured contacts in Step 2, contact the admin team to raise a hardware ticket. Provide details of the steps you tried and any issues you observed.
Note: Always handle the scanner and base station carefully to avoid further damage.
